    Hi,

    1.    Do you remember making any changes to the computer prior to the issue?

    2.    Is it a wired or wireless connection?

Here are the WLAN AutoConfig service dependencies:

    ·         Extensible Authentication Protocol (Started, Automatic)

    ·         CNG Key Isolation (Started Automatic)

    ·         NativeWiFi Filter (might not exist)

    ·         NDIS usermode I/O Protocol (might not exist)

    ·         Remote Procedure Call (RPC) (Started, Automatic)

    ·         DCOM Server Process Launcher (Started, Automatic)

    Method 1:

    Step 1:

First, let’s check for the dependency services of “WLAN Auto Config” and make sure that all the dependency services are started.

    Follow these steps:

     a. Click Start, type services.msc in the Start search box and hit Enter.

    b. Locate the “WLAN Auto Config” service.

    c. Right-click the service and select “Properties”.

    d. Click the “Dependencies” tab.

    Step 2:

Make a note of the dependency services of “WLAN Auto Config Manager” and make sure that these services are started and the startup type is set to “Automatic”.

To start a service, right-click the particular service and select “Start” or “Restart”.

To set the startup type of a particular service,

    a. Right-click the service and select “Properties”.

    b. Under General tab, make sure the Startup type is set to Automatic.

    Method 2:

    Step 1:

The WLAN AutoConfig service cannot start, I suggest you copy the following files on another Windows 7 machine which WLAN AutoConfig service can start normally and import them to the problematic one.

    a) Locate the wlansvc.dll file under the folder C:\Windows\System32. Remove the old one and paste the new one.

    b) Click the Start Button, type "cmd" (without quotation marks), in the search result list, right click on Cmd.exe and select Run as administrator.

Note: If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.

    d) In the popup window, type the following command and press Enter: regsvr32 wlansvc.dll

    Step 2:

Navigate the following registry key on another Windows 7 machine and export it. Then, please copy and import it on the problematic machine.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\Wlansvc

    Note:

Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

How to back up and restore the registry in Windows

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756

    Method 3:

You may check if the services related to Back up and Restore are started when you are trying to do a back up of the files.

    a. Click on Start

    b. In the start Search box type Services

    c. Right Click on – Run as ADMIN

These are the services that are required to be running when you are trying to perform a back up.

    Windows Event Log      Started      Automatic

    Task Scheduler           Started      Automatic

    Windows Backup         Stopped     Manual

    Method 4:

You may consider temporarily disabling your security software and then try back up.

     http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Turn-Windows-Firewall-on-or-off

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Disable-antivirus-software

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

    Method 5:

I would also suggest you check your external disk for any errors.

Check a drive for errors :http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Check-a-drive-for-errors

Disclaimer: ****Important: While performing check disk on the hard drive if any bad sectors are found on the hard drive when check disk tries to repair that sector if any data available on that might be lost

    Hi,

You may also temporarily disable security software’s and check if the issue persists. Make sure to enable those security software's on the computer after checking.

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Turn-Windows-Firewall-on-or-off

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Disable-antivirus-software

If disabling the security software resolves the issue then, please contact the specific security software manufacturer to resolve the issue.

Important: These steps may increase your security risk. These steps may also make the computer or the network more vulnerable to attack by malicious users or by malicious software such as viruses. We recommend the process that this article describes to enable programs to operate as they are designed to or to implement specific program capabilities. Before you make these changes, we recommend that you evaluate the risks that are associated with implementing this process in your particular environment. If you decide to implement this process, take any appropriate additional steps to help protect the system. We recommend that you use this process only if you really require this process.
