Remote mounting of front camera module portion of the unit.

Question

This exploded image https://images.anandtech.com/doci/14020/AzureKinect.jpg shows that the camera design is quite modular. Would it be within the realm of reasonable possibility to remotely mount the front portion of the unit or even just the camera module? I would like to mount the minimal camera on the front of an HMD and place the circuit board nearby with maybe/maybe not a short cable extension.
