Hello.

Is it possible to control the master volume with some keyboard shortcut? I would prefer it to be without a use of some additional software. But if it isn't possible then the software should be pretty light-weight and not consume a lot of CPU/RAM.  Thank you for your help.

PS: I DON'T intend to buy a multimedia keyboard for that.

Yes,you can create a Master Volume Shortcut and also assign a Shortcut Key.

Right click on a empty area on desktop, and click on New and Shortcut.

Paste the following in to the location of the item area:-

%windir%\System32\SndVol.exe -f 49825268Click Next button and give a name to the Shortcut and click Finish.

Now You right click on it and select Properties.

    Click Shortcut tab.

Assign your desired shortcut key like F8 or F9 in the Shortcut Key area.

    Click OK/Apply.

Could you also create a desktop shortcuts to "mute" master volume and shortcut key to increase/decrease volume?  Such as F8 to mute and "Ctrl" + arrow up/down for volume control.

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

From your description, it seems that you want to know if there is any software that controls the volume in the computer without using multimedia keyboard.

I will be glad to assist you.

I would appreciate if you could answer the following question:

    1.    For which application do you need the keyboard shortcut for controlling volume?

    2.    What is the make and model of the keyboard?

I would suggest you to follow the steps provided below and update us on the status of the issue.

I am sorry to say you that by default Windows do not have any keyboard shortcuts to control system’s volume. It also depends on the type of keyboard or application you are using.

To control volume with keyboard shortcuts, we need multimedia keyboard which has volume control buttons in it.

If you are trying to control volume for Windows Media Player or Windows Media Center using keyboard shortcut, then follow the below steps.

    For Windows Media Player:

    Mute the volume: F7

    Decrease the volume: F8

    Increase the volume: F9

    For Windows Media Center:

    Mute or unmute volume: F8

    Turn down volume: F9

    Turn up volume: F10

    For reference:

    Windows Media Player keyboard shortcuts:

    Windows Media Center keyboard shortcuts:

If you are referring for software that controls the master volume using keyboard shortcut, then I would suggest you to search from your favorite search engine for any third-party software.

    Thanks for response ,

As you say there is no inbuilt key for volume , so there is only one way to use any software to create a key.

And important thing is , i want to control master volume of windows while doing other stuff like games, browsing etc.

I have a Logitech keyboard which don't have any key shortcut  . And there are some software from my  search but it don't give me any easy shortcuts like f8 and f9 , so did all windows versions don't have master volume control or only win 7

          Yours reply will be helfull
