Hi,

Just scanned my External Hard drive with Western Digital Data LifeGuard Diagnostics. Still now i haven't faced any problem with my hard drive, Since i haven't scanned for any bad sectors AGES , therefore i thought to scan for any bad sectors and repair it, if it is there.

Test Option: EXTENDED TEST

Model Number: WD 4000BEV External

Firmware Number: 1.05

Capacity: 400.09 GB

SMART Status: PASS

Test Result: FAIL

Test Error Code: 08-Error was detected while repairing bad sectors.

Test Time: 02:44:39, August 05, 2013

so what should i do now? Shall i ignore it or is there any other way to fix/repair the bad sectors.

Is there any other way where windows 8 will help my External HDD to fix/repair the bad sectors?

Please reply soon.

Bye,

Siva

    Hi Siva,

As the hardware ages during normal use and other sectors begin to fail. Eventually the store of spares is exhausted, at which point new bad sectors cannot be cleared and are threrefore detectable in testing. T he hard disk is at the end of its useful life at this point,  I would suggest you to take a backup of all the important data.

    Hi Siva,

I would suggest you to check if there is any options to fix the bad sectors in the Digital Data Lifegaurd diagnostics tool that reported the bad sectors. Most of these software have the option to detect and fix the bad sectors in the drive.

If you couldn’t find any option in the tool, then I would suggest you to use the Windows Error checking utility to find and repair bad sectors in a drive. Refer to the section “To repair a drive” in this article:
