I want somebody from Microsoft to answer this question. I just updated my system per Microsoft's direction. Now Security Essentials does not work. Error Code: 0x80073b01. Surely they have some sort of customer service that can address this issue. Or do they not care about the people that are supplying them their paycheck? Come on Microsoft. ANSWER THE QUESTION!!!

    Hi Leo,

Is there any other security software installed on your computer other than Security Essentials?

I would suggest you to check the update history and see if there are any updates related to Security.

See which Windows updates are installed

I would recommend you to uninstall and reinstall Security Essentials and check if it helps.

How to manually uninstall Microsoft Security Essentials 2.0.1963 if you cannot uninstall it by using the Add or Remove Programs item

    Notes:

Once you uninstall, refer to the Step 3: Reinstall Microsoft Security Essentialsfrom the above Microsoft article.

****The steps mentioned below include system registry modification. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: Back up the registry:  http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Back-up-the-registry

Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

I have already tried those that I understand. Nothing works. It was working before I performed a Microsoft recommended update.

Excuse me. I figured this being "Microsoft Community" That someone there would be monitoring all the issues people are having with their systems/programs, and would provide a fix for the issues. Surely everyone else is having this problem. Guess we're not important enough.

You are shouting at the wrong people.  This is not Microsoft.

This is a peer-to-peer mutual support forum where users ask questions & users answer questions.  Microsoft involvement is minimal.

If you want direct support from Microsoft then you will have totake up a support contract with them.  If you bought a retail copy of Windows 7 then there is a period of support included.  If your Windows 7 was pre-installed then there is a period of support from the PC maker [not from Microsoft].

You could also search this forum for that error number.
