i had windows 8.1 installed. I even got the reservation for windows 10. but at 99% of downloading to upgrade an error message appears in the windows update dialogue box. thus preventing me to upgrade to windows 10. After successful attempts. I failed to upgrade. I called the customer care of HP. They after hearing everything and giving me the case id (which is: 4757399378) told me to format my system to factory settings which returns me back to Windows 8. Which I did as per their instructions. But Very Unfortunately after multiple successive attempts to even to Upgrade to Windows 8.1 has become a nightmare for me. I am constantly trying to upgrade to windows 8.1 which after two days I have failed. Please can you help me with my problem. I WANT TO UPGRADE TO WINDOWS 10 JUST LIKE ANY OTHER PC.

My PC Details is as follows.

    g6-2312ax

    Sr. No. 5CD3153NPS

    Pr. No. D5F89PA#ACJ

I am in India. My Name is Rajib Paul, Mobile No. is: 9868412810.

    PLEASE HELP ME

HAVE YOU FOUND ANY SOLUTION TO THIS

I've noticed this error can turn up when windows isn't 'ready', such as wanting to do a Defender scan. In these cases I presume it's by design, but the message isn't unhelpful.

I haven't had any similar problems since making a breakthrough, completing the upgrade, and now (five months on) I can't remember what helped.  The guy who sold me my laptop had already done a complete install and upgrade, and he said it worked first go for him.

I think, but can't prove, that the original get-to-50%-and-crash might be related to my internet connection - very high speed cable, but with a serious ISP-induced DSN resolution problem.  I eventually made that problem go away.  A lot of things work better and faster now.

Because the network fixes were done after getting to 8.1, the only way to prove that the original problem was network-related would be to go back and reinstall Win8 from scratch and then repeat the upgrade process.  Given that my system is stable, that doesn't have a lot of appeal.

On balance, my guess is that the likely culprit is some combination of a bad network connection (ie: a local user problem), and poor ungraceful error recovery in the download process (ie: a Microsoft coding problem).

What's completely culpable is the error message which is totally accurate, but doesn't tell you anything useful or helpful.
