I have downloaded the Windows 8.1 update from the store and install it on my win 8 without any problem. Now I would like to reinstall it, but I'm getting info that some files are missing...

I found sollution http://windows.microsoft.com/en-IN/windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media, but when I am entering my previous wi 8 key there is info saying is wrong. I didn't get any new key for my win8.1 after update.

Could you tell me what should I do to get proper key for my win8.1 update to be able to reinstall it.

Did you upgrade to Windows 8 from a previous version before updating to Windows 8.1?

You will need to reinstall beginning with the original version of Windows that came with your system.

These mods and so-called mvp's are so full of it...I swear 99% of the time they don't even read the friggin' question being asked...

Us: "Hello, my mouse seems to be skipping all over the place"

Them: "You can get your product key from the back of the box that your dvd came in"

    Us: <facepalm>

read this and tell us how it worked...

    Problem sorted.

I've downloaded win8 from the Microsoft side, burned it on DVD and simply reinstall the whole system (I have win8 key, but no win8.1). After that I could upgrade again my system to Win 8.1 - option available in the Windows shop.

All is fine now, I am back on win 8.1.

There is only one question why I had to install win8 first and not win8.1 - that double job???

    Thanks for help.

Windows 8.1 is a free update to those running Windows 8.  If running Windows 7, Windows Vista or Windows XP, you would have to purchase the DVD to install Windows 8.1.

Same with me...upgraded from 8 to 8.1 but when I did so, lost the ability to refresh my PC because I didn't have the 8.1 install media. MS really stepped on their genitals with this.

But in the article, you first download 8 and enter the product key for 8. As soon as they verify the PK and the download begins, cancel it. Go back to the update page and select download 8.1; this will get you the 8.1 OS. Once you have this, you'll be able to make 8.1 install media for refresh operations AND you can install directly to 8.1 without needing 8 first. When it asks for the PK, use your Win8 PK.

I've read reports that people are having issues with the upgrade and certain apps and that a direct 8.1 install seems to be the key. Still, I think MS is really going off the deep end because 8.1 is NOT a new OS vs. Win8, but more along the lines of them fixing Win8 (as in, this is a SP). For MS to act like this is a new OS is truly cringe-worthy.
