Hello,

I remember I installed Avast Free 2014, then maybe afterwards it caused my apps to show those arrow down signs and not be 'live'. Is it really because of Avast Antivirus?

The Apps Troubleshooter cannot help me.

I had installed Windows 8.1 and had this problem.

Simply uninstalled and then re-installed each one and now the problem is gone.

THIS is the solution to the problem.

You have to manually delete and reinstall each and every app that doesnt't update on its own. Only Microsoft apps show this problem, all the other ones do not need to be reinstalled.

Please note that this problem is NOT related, in any way, with Avast.

    Hi Francis,

Are you able to access internet on your computer?

As the issue occurred only after installing Avast Free 2014, The issue might be due to Avast Free 2014.

Method 1: I would suggest you to run network troubleshooter and see if that helps.

    a. In the start Menu Type “Identify and Repair Network Problem” and hit enter.

    b. Follow the Onscreen instructions to complete the wizard

Method 2: I would suggest you to try the steps from the following link:

Yes, I could connect to the Internet.

I already searched other forums, and I got two troubleshooters - MicrosoftAccounts and AppsDiagnostics. I think Microsoft Accounts had the right diagnosis - I could not connect to my Microsoft Account.

I then uninstalled Avast 2014 and rebooted two times, still the apps won't update.

I reinstalled Windows 8.1 Pro, now it is working correctly.

I assume it was because I downloaded about 344 2-day old malwares to test the detection of Avast. Avast was having troubles cleaning them all, though they were all detected. Maybe they did some damage on my computer's policies and registry settings.

Aside from Windows Defender, is there a third-party antivirus you could recommend that is compatible with Windows 8.1?

    Thanks.

Add me to this list. Down arrows everywhere.

This 8.1 is an absolute abortion.

I'm having this problem too. I too had installed avast Internet security 2014, but everything was fine. Today all of a sudden i get this issue. My firewall settings is set to allow all Microsoft/windows connections. Both your suggestions haven't helped. Uninstalling avast didnt do the trick either. I highly doubt it has anything to do with avast.

I noticed that live tile works only for the Store app.

Can I try wsreset is Run(Win+r)??

Or restore to a earlier restore point??

Else I believe a refresh is the only way to fix this. Will I have to reinstall all the drivers if i refresh my PC? Any suggestion as to what all I'll have to reconfigure/reinstall after a refresh would be helpful.
