Hello,

I remember I installed Avast Free 2014, then maybe afterwards it caused my apps to show those arrow down signs and not be 'live'. Is it really because of Avast Antivirus?

The Apps Troubleshooter cannot help me.

I had installed Windows 8.1 and had this problem.

Simply uninstalled and then re-installed each one and now the problem is gone.

THIS is the solution to the problem.

You have to manually delete and reinstall each and every app that doesnt't update on its own. Only Microsoft apps show this problem, all the other ones do not need to be reinstalled.

Please note that this problem is NOT related, in any way, with Avast.

I saw this myself when I went from the preview to 8.1 or did a clean install.

I believe it means that the App needs downloading. In my case all I did was select each app and then they downloaded and work fine. While the apps were downloading the tile displayed a progress bar across the bottom.

    Found 3 Solutions.

    1. Restore your computer from the most recent restore point that had no problems. If this problem occured after installing something...a restore point is often automatically created while installing a software(upgrading avast in my case)
    2. If no restore point available, uninstall all apps with the live tile problem(mostly only microsoft) and reinstall through Store.
    3. Refresh PC

Hopefully tech support can provide a fix.

I have the arrows too.  All the apps work, they just aren't 'Live'.  I am also secured with Avast Internet Security newest version. When I updated from 8 to 8.1 I noticed that it did not keep Avast on my computer, so I redownloaded it using my subscription from their website. It's annoying, but I might just wait until Avast releases a patch because everything does work and I am secure

Same here. arrows everywhere, plus adhoc internet connectivity issues as described elsewhere.

Another wasted day trying to find fixes!!
