Hello,

I remember I installed Avast Free 2014, then maybe afterwards it caused my apps to show those arrow down signs and not be 'live'. Is it really because of Avast Antivirus?

The Apps Troubleshooter cannot help me.

I had installed Windows 8.1 and had this problem.

Simply uninstalled and then re-installed each one and now the problem is gone.

THIS is the solution to the problem.

You have to manually delete and reinstall each and every app that doesnt't update on its own. Only Microsoft apps show this problem, all the other ones do not need to be reinstalled.

Please note that this problem is NOT related, in any way, with Avast.

Wow that's cool. after 15 minutes a list of apps comes up and they were already allowed through the Firewall.

Rough update with 8.1 - bugs everywhere

It's not Avast. The crazy apps allow thing locked up my computer good - no tiles worked and there were multiple DCOM and kernel errors.

NEWS - the down arrow is only on Windows 8.1 native apps, check out the screen shots on the previous page.

Maybe they are MS easter eggs.

I too had this problem. Did you install the Windows 8.1 Preview before? If so, you may have added the preview apps to your account, and I think this is telling us to reinstall the apps. After painfully uninstalling and reinstalling everything, it works as it should, but it is an inconvenience that shouldn't exist nonetheless.
