Safe mode chkdsk/scan won't work

Whenever I use the chkdsk/scan, I get the message "A function call was made when the object was in an incorrect state for that function.  A snapshot error occurred while scanning this drive.  Run an offline fix."  Chkdsk/scan/offlinescanandfix and dskchk /f /r both work.  The SFC functions do too.  I still get the same chkdsk/scan message after they both scan.  I've also used all of IoBit and Iolo's hard disk maintenance tools.  Is this a serious problem?  Even if not, is there a next step in maintaining and repairing the hard disk?

The /scan option might not be available in safe mode. Use chkdsk /f c: if a virtual disk (VM) or chkdsk /r c: if physical (if you don't know, it's probably physical). /r implies /f - /f fixes file system issues, /r repairs sectors.

I know this is 4 years old but all these BS answers are frustrating.

    Hi Stephen,

    1.     What is the make and model of the computer?

    2.    Do you get any blue screen error?

    3.    When you say chkdsk offline fix, have you run the chkdsk from command prompt?

    4.    Do you get the same error after running SFC scan?

    5.    Why exactly do you need to run chkdsk? Do you face any issues while working with files and folders?

To maintain and repair the hard disk errors, you can also run the hard disk utility provided by the Manufacturer of the computer.

Also refer the steps mentioned in the article.

Spinrite looks good.  It would have to be very as it's $89.00 price would be a strain on my computer budget.   The net suggested HDD Regenerator and MHDD as alternatives.  I don't know you would recommend them over Windows 8.1 functions.  "Too many cooks can spoil the broth" with computers easily.   Two other HDD monitoring/repair programs found nothing wrong.

You might take a look at SpinRite. I have used it successfully on computers with issues. Be sure to switch to a Level 5 scan once you start since this does the full repair.

My computer is custom made, with a Windows 8.1 Pro OS, a 3.80 gigahertz AMD FX-4130 Quad-Core

192 kilobyte primary memory cache processor, a HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH24NSB0 ATA Optical drive, a Seagate Barracuda ST500DM002-1BD142 hard drive and an EVGA Nvidia GTX 550ti external graphics card.  Since I don't have a computer manufacturer, is there a manufacturer hard disk utility, hardware/ model hard disk utility or another kind of hard disk utility you'd recommend?  I have paid Iolo System Mechanic and IOBit Advanced System Care 7 Pro.  I've never gotten a bluescreen error.  I run chkdsk both from command prompt and with administrative rights.  SFC scans have never detected a problem.  The chkdsk/scan though, still always does.  Iolo System Mechanic has made my computer much slower to sign-in and takes a long time to open.  I was mainly looking for a repair that bore on it when I got these disturbing messages from chkdsk/scan.  I schedule my My Windows 8.1 Pro analyzer/optimizer to maintain my computer daily.  There is a Seagate Seatool for Windows 8.  My computer, however, posts a compatibility warning...
