mouse and keyboard randomly freezing up for a few seconds

Running Windows 11 and over the last month or so, the mouse and keyboard have started freezing up every 5 mins or so (for a few seconds) and it seems to be getting more frequent. Even typing this question the keyboard is doing it. I have seen this question asked on the MS forums before - but clearly it hasn't been addressed/fixed by Microsoft.

When typing the keyboard input will just stop appearing on the screen, then 3-5 seconds later the input will catch up and display what I have been typing. With the mouse the cursor will just stop then reappear where it would have been had it not frozen up.

In games it exerts similar behaviour (making them currently unplayable). This is an exert from someone else's question but explains exactly what is happening to me:

"On the keyboard, I will be moving around using the WASD keys when suddenly one of the WASD keys will freeze causing my character to continuously try moving in that direction. The only way I can get the key to unfreeze is to tap that key to stop it from registering. On the mouse, It will just start randomly pressing the Mouse1, so my character will start shooting, and I have to click the mouse button for it to stop."

This is a brand new mouse - purchased 3 days ago, and it was doing it before with the old one - so it is not the mouse, or associated drivers. Also, I have had the keyboard for about 8 years and this wasn't happening until recently. I have added no other new hardware. I can only assume this is something to do with an update, although people have been reporting this problem in Windows 10 too. I am at a loss as to what else to try.

    Hi,

Can you try a "clean boot" and see if it makes a difference:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929135

If a clean boot does resolve the issue there is a section in the article "How to determine what is causing the problem by performing a clean boot".

Reset the computer to start normally afterward.

As a general precaution create a System Restore Point prior to initiating a clean boo
