Windows 8.1 Pro - High CPU usage from Intel process IAStorDataSvc (32 bit)

I have just installed the Windows 8.1 Pro upgrade without problem and it seems to be functioning perfectly.

However the Intel process IAStorDataSvc (32 bit) is running continuously with 30%< CPU usage and 60% Memory.

To stop this I have to select End Task but each time I re-start the laptop the Intel process automatically starts.

My Laptop is Sony VPCSB Intel Core i7-2620M CPU @ 2.70Ghz with 8Gb RAM and 226 Gb RAID SSD storage using Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit OS

Can anyone help with a solution please?

Thanks Guy

    Hi Guy

Which three drivers fixed the problem? I am not able to find them on Soni Asia Pacific store.

    Thanks

    mi

    Hi Mi

I just went and did the Vaio update and it automatically brought up the 3 drivers referred to.

You can also do it via the Vaio care desktop utilities.

Let me know if you need more?

    Cheers Guy

    Hi,

This is known issue faced by many customers using the Intel Rapid Storage Technology. Many users have mentioned facing this issue when using the driver version 11.5. Most of them have reported that the issue was resolved after installing the latest drivers for this technology. So, I would suggest you to install the latest driver from the manufacturer’s website and check if that helps. Since you haven’t mentioned the fill model number of the computer, you can search for the driver for the correct model here:

    http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/select-system.pl?PRODTYPE=24

If you are unable to find the appropriate driver from the manufacturer’s website, then I would suggest you to check the Intel website and download the latest Windows 8/Windows 8.1 compatible driver and check:

    http://www.intel.com/p/en\_US/support/highlights/sftwr-prod/imsm

Try these steps and let us know the results. We’d be happy to help if you need any further assistance.

I just had a similar problem start after upgrading from Windows 8 to 8.1 on my HP Pavilion dv6 laptop computer.  After a quick internet search, I found this page and tried the suggested fix.  My original attempt was to go to the Intel site and download the actual driver for Intel Rapid Storage Technology. I used the update driver function and pointed the install to the folder containing the driver files.  After a restart (and fingers crossed), I found the same problem existed.  I tried the other version, to no avail.  This is when I went for the much larger self install .exe file and downloaded that.  After a fairly long install process (minutes, not hours!), I restarted the laptop and the problem has been remedied!  My fan is running at a normal "idle" speed now since the CPU isn't always busy with the old process.  My battery lasts a few hours now, instead of an hour (if that).  Thank you forum members!

    Hi Danonnet,

    Glad it helped!

Here is another couple of problems I've encountered which may help as you are on the same OS:

If you are using Windows 8 and getting repeat blue screen crashes, this may help. Windows 8 has a new program "Watchdog" which monitors processes for long start up times and then shuts down your laptop via the blue screen if any occur, to protect data. If you laptop has SSD disks then it is most likely the Hard Disk driver and this explains how to update it, simples! Just fixed mine and all appears to work now :)

Also have been unable to scan using my cheap HP Photosmart B110a, 4 in 1 and have now discovered that it only has limited functionality under Windows 8.1 Pro, namely it can only print. Need HP or MS to resolve this guys (Epson Photo R3000 is fine though) but you can check compatibility via:

    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/compatibility/CompatCenter/ProductViewerWithDefaultFilters?TempOsid=Windows+8.1&Locale=en-us&Architecture=X64&TextSearch=hp%2bphotosmart%2bb110a%2bwireless%2be-all-in-one%2bprinter&Type=Both&CurrentPage=0&TotalPages=1&ShowCriteria=0&SortCriteria=Relevance&Compatibility=Unknown&LastRequested=14

I am now left with one problem when I walk off and do something else like take a call, leaving the laptop to sleep on the screen that is active, I get occasional system crashes showing a black screen stating NO OPERATING SYSTEM FOUND. Initially indicated this was a problem with my SSD disks having in errors, but have now found out its dues to the Windows 8.1 Pro - MS have been working on this problem but no fix is available yet. I restart with the power button and all is fine.

Let me know if you get any further problems please too?

Again MS have released an OS and we're the guinea pigs for testing, even so I reckon 8.1 is great.

    Cheers dude.
