* Original Title: For activation, what does this error code 0xC004E028 mean? Thanks

Hi,

Recently I used the DVD I bought from Microsoft to do a clean win8.1 install on one of my laptop which has oem win8.1 previously. After login I found in the event viewer there is an error:license activation (slui.exe) failed with the following error code: hr=0xC004E028。

Please help me, what does this mean? I tried to search online and found nothing useful. Will this error code be a matter?

Thank you!

    1. What is the complete error message that you get when you try to activate Windows.
    2. What is the Make and Model of the computer?

    Hi Rizwan,

Actually I have successfully activated my windows(it is self-activated because it has a oem key embedded), but I just curious why this error occurred in my event viewer. I tried slui 0x2a to see the error message, it is something like another licensing service is running, please try again later.

But anyway, it is do permanently activated, so should I simply ignore this error message?

    Thanks

    Hi Arthurz,

Thank you for replying with the status of the issue Glad to know your Windows is activated.

This error usually occurs if a hardware is changed or any hardware device malfunctions and Windows is unable to verify the license again. Windows is unable to read the SLIC table in the BIOS which is required to be able to self-activate the OEM_SLP Key that is currently in use.  This happens due to one of the following reasons:

    1. Service Tag or the Service Number is not updated by the OEM vendor after motherboard replacement.
    2. BIOS contains a default or a garbage value for Service Tag.
    3. BIOS has incorrect product information

Please feel free to reach us for any further assistance on windows.

    2. Right click on a blank part of the screen to get all apps at the bottom and click on all apps.
    3. Click Control panel and then choose System to see your product id at the bottom of screen.
    4. write down your product id number in this format ####-####-####-####, ex

    1. repeat steps 1 and 2 and locate command prompt, right click on command prompt and click

down at the bottom, run as administrator.

    1. Once command prompt window is open do the following.

Type slmgr/ipk (your product id) and hit enter.

    1. A window will pop up stating that your activated.
    2. To check that it is, in the command prompt type slui

9 Once you've done all this, Re-start your computer and the "windows is not activated message should no longer appear.

Note: I'm not sure if this will work with other versions of Windows.
