Although I have my computer set to notify me when there are updates before I install them, my computer automatically updated

Windows Update Agent 7.6.7600.320. Do I need this update and why did it load into my computer before I selected. I have searched for some explanation as to what this program is but am unable to find anything. WHAT IS IT?

So it's the program that retrieves updates from microsoft updates and windows updates.. I would imagine it's absolutely essential. It installs no matter what your windows update settings, so it seems

There is no stand-alone Windows Update Agent available to download. If you have automatic updating turned on, the latest version of the Windows Update Agent is downloaded and installed automatically on your computer.

Have Windows 7 Home Premium with service pack 1. Have my update service set 'check for updates but let me choose wether to download and install them' not AUTOMATIC updates. This one loaded automatically and gave me no indication except it was on my updated  list
