Before upgrading to Windows 8.1, I install Windows 8 64 bit with driver and tools in the following list: http://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/K45DR/#support and windows 8 work properly, including brightness control.

After I upgraded to Windows 8.1 with the same driver of Windows 8, Windows 8.1 brightness control does not working. I installed Windows 8 drivers for Windows 8.1 because Windows 8.1 driver is not yet complete on the web.

Drivers have been updated, but still does not working.

Specifications my notebook : Asus K45DR A8-4500M Processsor, AMD Radeon® Mobility™ HD7640G + HD 7470M Dual Graphics with 1GB DDR3 VRAM

This problem is very annoying me Please help to fix the brightness control on windows 8.1 64 bit

I got this from Asus Customer Service Team :

  1. Go to Registry Editor (regedit.exe)
  2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class{4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\0001
  3. Next, go find the KMD_EnableBrightnesslf2 & KMD_EnableBrightnessInterface2 key
  4. Set both to 0.
  5. Reboot.

Thanks, it work :)

Push WIN+X to open system menu - choose System then Device Manager, search for your display/monitor, right-click on it - Update driver software - Browse my computer for driver software - Let me pick from a list... - choose Generic PnP Monitorand the brightness control will work again.

I have the same notebook, here's how I fix it:

    1. First I installed the lastest AMD Drivers:

    http://fichiers3.touslesdrivers.com/39739/13-12\_mobility\_win7\_win8\_64\_dd\_ccc\_whql.exe

    1. Then I open the Regedit and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class{4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\0000
    2. Set KMD_EnableBrightnessInterface2 to 0
    3. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class{4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\0001
    4. Set KMD_EnableBrightnessInterface2 to 0
    5. Restart your computer
