    Hi,

Error code 8024402C: This error might be caused by a program running on your computer that's preventing Windows Update Services (SVCHOST) from accessing the Internet. Programs that might do this include firewalls, antispyware software, web accelerators, Internet security or antivirus programs and proxy servers.

If you have any of these programs running, you might need to turn them off while downloading and installing updates. I would recommend you to turn them back on after updating your computer.

Method 1: Temporarily disable the Security software and see if the issue persists.

a: Press Windows logo + Q to open the search box.

b: Now click Settings and then type Action center, hit enter.

c: Click the Chevron next to security.

d: Turn off the Anti-virus installed on the computer.

Warning: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Method 2:Perform steps mentioned below and see if it helps.

a: On the Start screen, type cmd. Alternatively, swipe in from the right, tap or click Search, and then type c.

b: Tap or click cmd in the search results.

c: At the command prompt, type the following commands, and press Enter after each command:

    net start bits

    net start wuauserv

Please reply if you have any questions.

    Hi,

If the computer is connected directly to the Internet or to a home network (and never connected to a network at work), you might need to set Internet Explorer to automatically detect local area network (LAN) settings so Windows Update can go online to obtain updates. To do this, follow these steps:

    a: Open Internet Explorer

b: Click the Tools button, click Internet Options, click theConnections tab, and then click LAN settings.

b: Under Automatic configuration, select the Automatically detect settings check box, and then click OK.

Please reply if you have any questions.

i was having this error for past 2 months , even after trying thousands of methods... including registry too

then i realized the problem is in my IPS ( Internet Service Provider) cuz it was unable to find server

so set your own server to google's server

    i.e.,  8.8.8.8

    go to RUN

    enter " ncpa.cpl "

right click on the network you are using for internet

    go to properties

    not click on ipv4 setting

    again go to properties

click "  Use the following DNS server adresses "

    enter preferred DNS server

    8.8.8.8

    and alternate

    8.8.4.4

Thank you all for your contribution.

For certainty, I completely uninstalled all security software, but the error persisted.

I then followed the "net start" commands, but it replied that these services were already running.

I also set my IPv4 DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 with no changed outcome.

Any other ideas?  Please and thank you.

I have tried the above method.  While running command net start wuauserv, the reply is t"service has already been started.  However the reply to first command is "System Error 5 has occurred". I have removed antivirus, disabled windows firewall but still cannot run STORE APP or update my Win 8.1.  Please help.  ******@Hotmail.com
