Try SP1 for Microsoft Office 2013 :)
Windows 8.1 Start Menu Tiles Missing Icon
Description of Problem:
- Microsoft Outlook 2013 "live tile" on Windows 8.1 Start Menu is blank/missing. All I have is a solid blue tile, with no text or logo.
Troubleshooting steps taken so far:
- Downloaded and ran the Modern UI App troubleshooter and check.

- Ran the System File Checker tool (via CMD as Administrator)
- sfc /scannow

Any advise would be appreciated,

Edit: There was a resolution:
Try SP1 for Microsoft Office 2013 :)
This solved the issue I was having! Thank you so much!
For anyone else who is experiencing the same troubles, this is what I did:
- Goto Start Menu
- Search for Windows Updates
- Check for New updates
- Install Service Pack 1 for Microsoft Office 2013
- Reboot and enjoy your icons being back to normal!

2014-03-19T20:21:43+00:00 Make a shortcut to it on the Desktop and right click on the shortcut and select pin to Start.Office programs like Outlook have to be run on the Desktop. You can also remove the blank tile by right clicking on it. Then Find Outlook 2013 in the Apps list on the Start page and right click on it and Pin to Start. It will still open on the Desktop. I doubt you can make it a Live Tile. It is not related to Outlook.com (formerly Hotmail) and it doesn't run in the Mail App.

2014-03-19T21:19:30+00:00 Thank you for the suggestions, although the following did not work:
- removing the shortcut "Tile" and re-pinning it to the Start menu from Apps list.
- removing the shortcut "Tile" and attempting to ping it from a shortcut created on the Desktop.
- The only option I had with this one was pin to taskbar.
I know that Outlook 2013 is a "Desktop" program and runs in the desktop environment, but the shortcut "Tile" in the Start Menu (Metro UI) is blank. I'm not entirely sure what Outlook.com and the Mail app would have to do with this.
I don't have any problem find, opening or running the program. The problem I do have is the blank tile, albeit operable, is rather ugly and really blemishes the new "Windows 8.1" look. I hope Microsoft can fix this glitch, or someone knows how to fix it.

Tried to unpin and repin the 2 applications did not solve the issue...
