Try SP1 for Microsoft Office 2013 :)
Windows 8.1 Start Menu Tiles Missing Icon
Description of Problem:
- Microsoft Outlook 2013 "live tile" on Windows 8.1 Start Menu is blank/missing. All I have is a solid blue tile, with no text or logo.
Troubleshooting steps taken so far:
- Downloaded and ran the Modern UI App troubleshooter and check.

For anyone else who is experiencing the same troubles, this is what I did:

- Check for New updates
- Install Service Pack 1 for Microsoft Office 2013
- Reboot and enjoy your icons being back to normal!

2014-03-20T13:35:35+00:00 And, on top of losing its tile text, even more annoying js that Lync installed itself on the taskbar and won't let me remove it! And I don't even know what it is or does.

2014-03-28T14:42:48+00:00 FYI, some details - It was fixed because SP1 clobbered the March 2014 Updates for Outlook and Lync which hosed the icon.. See more details here: http://etflconsultancy.wordpress.com/2014/03/13/blank-metro-tiles-with-missing-icons-in-windows-8-1/ -- Manually uninstalling the updates also fixes it. Stupid patches and poor QA.. :\
