Try SP1 for Microsoft Office 2013 :)
Windows 8.1 Start Menu Tiles Missing Icon
Description of Problem:
- Microsoft Outlook 2013 "live tile" on Windows 8.1 Start Menu is blank/missing. All I have is a solid blue tile, with no text or logo.
Troubleshooting steps taken so far:
- Downloaded and ran the Modern UI App troubleshooter and check.

Try SP1 for Microsoft Office 2013 :)
This solved the issue I was having! Thank you so much!
For anyone else who is experiencing the same troubles, this is what I did:
- Goto Start Menu
- Search for Windows Updates
- Check for New updates
- Install Service Pack 1 for Microsoft Office 2013
- Reboot and enjoy your icons being back to normal!
Windows for home | Previous Windows versions | Windows update

2014-04-10T14:47:33+00:00 I had the same problem where all of my Office tiles on the start screen went blank suddenly for no apparent reason.
I went to Windows update in control panel and clicked the Office update. I'm not sure if it was Service Pack 1 or not but it fixed the issue.
Thanks for the tip

2014-06-22T19:15:46+00:00 All my Office 2013 tiles have disappeared, apart from the one for Onenote. My Windows and Office installations are up-to-date. I.e. I have Office SP1 installed. Should I try and 'repair' (how ?) my Office installation ?

2014-08-14T02:27:21+00:00 I was having a similar problem with a whole bunch of icon of programs I know I installed and could run, was missing from the Start Screen.
I stumble on the solution while trying to figure out why the "change PC settings" charm stopped working.
From the desktop:
- Navigate to "%ProgramData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs"
- Under the "View" menu, make sure "Hidden Items" is checked.
- Go up one level to "**%ProgramData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu**"
- Right click on "Programs" and choose "Properties"
- Go to the "General" tab and uncheck "Hidden"
- Click "OK"
- {Optional} Under the "View" menu, uncheck "Hidden Items".
All of my missing tiles and icons instantly returned.
Good Luck.
