Try SP1 for Microsoft Office 2013 :)
Windows 8.1 Start Menu Tiles Missing Icon
Description of Problem:
- Microsoft Outlook 2013 "live tile" on Windows 8.1 Start Menu is blank/missing. All I have is a solid blue tile, with no text or logo.
Troubleshooting steps taken so far:
- Downloaded and ran the Modern UI App troubleshooter and check.

Edit: There was a resolution:
Try SP1 for Microsoft Office 2013 :)
This solved the issue I was having! Thank you so much!
For anyone else who is experiencing the same troubles, this is what I did:
- Goto Start Menu
- Search for Windows Updates
- Check for New updates
- Install Service Pack 1 for Microsoft Office 2013
- Reboot and enjoy your icons being back to normal!
Windows for home | Previous Windows versions | Windows update

2014-11-22T18:24:58+00:00 Hi there,
This is exclusively for the ones who come looking for this problem in future.
I have already faced this type of issue and got rectified myself.
My problem was that I had Blank Tiles of Mail, Calendar and People.
What I did for this --> Uninstalled Mail - this removed all the three as they are all in one application --> went to Windows Store --> Account>My Apps --> Mail, Calendar and People ( will show as "Not Installed") --> click it and Install --> Simple and Done!
I had another of the same kind - My Desktop Tile was also Blank -- WAIT DON'T OVERLOOK THIS STEP THINKING IT WILL BE LIKE THE SAME AS ABOVE !!!
Go to C Drive --> Show all hidden files and folders --> Program Data (Hidden File) --> Microsoft --> Windows --> Start Menu --> Programs --> Scroll down and you will see the Desktop shortcut file --> Cut and paste this file in any other drive (asks for administrator access - allow and continue) --> Now close all file explorer windows --> Cut the Desktop file you pasted in the other drive --> Paste it in the original Directory mentioned above ( again asks for admin access - allow and continue ) --> Close all file explorer windows --> Open start and see - Voila its there!
So the main step --> If any of your tile is blank, locate the file in start menu file directory --> move it somewhere else and re-move (don't remove) the file back to start menu programs.
Hope I wasn't too long as this would guide the Windows beginners also.
