1628 failed to complete installation FSX Gold Edition Windows 10 Pro 64bit

I am having problems using/reinstalling FSX Gold Edition. FSX used to work without problems on Wndows 7 Pro 64bit, but I have recently done the upgrade to Windows 10 Pro 64bit and ran the FSX game. It worked ok until I opened another window within FSX (maps, configuration settings, select aircraft, etc. etc.) then the whole screen went black and had to close the FSX program from the task manager.

I eventually decided to uninstall the FSX game to do a fresh install. I ran the setup.exe program from the CD as administrator but I get this message each time....

I then tried to do a clean boot by going into the services (via msconfig) and disabling the services and restarting the computer.

The tried again the install FSX but the same message appears as above. Now I cannot even install the game!!

Has anyone got any suggestions?

    For  anyone else having the same problems loading FSX and getting the 1628 Failed to complete installation message, this is what I did which worked for me. I hope it works for others.

    1. Load the FSX CD in the CD drive, open File Explorer and locate the DVDCheck.exe file on the CD.

    1. Select and 'Right click' the file and select 'Properties' then select the 'Compatibility'  tab.
    2. In the Compatibility section choose the version of Windows that FSX was able/used to run. (In my case it used to run fine using Windows 7 Pro 64bit). Check the tick box and then press 'OK'

    1. Double click the file 'DVDCheck.exe' file and the installation should start....

    1. You may get a message to either 'Repair' or Remove' as below. - Select 'Repair'.

    1. The installation should start and eventually finish.

    NB. When you run the FSX program after the installation, you may get an message saying...

    FSX Scenery.CFG File errorLocal Scenery Directory(Addon\Scenery) in Scenery Area 115 not found

    As below....

    If you do, then select the SCENERY.CFG file in the C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX directory.

    Take a copy of the file and rename it as SCENERY.CFG.old or something.

    Then open the SCENERY.CFG file in Notepad and scroll down until you find the entry:

    [Area.115]

    Title=Addon Scenery

    Local=Addon Scenery

    Layer=115

    Active=TRUE

    Required=FALSE

    Delete all this section (highlighted in red) within the SCENERY.CFG file and Save the SCENERY.CFG file. The FSX program should now run without the message appearing.

    Hope this helps.

    Ref. FSX Gold Edition

    Nope, this DOES NOT WORK.

    I am still getting this message...

    1. Checked to see if Windows 10 was up to date - It was.
    2. Checked which version of DirectX was running - Version 11.2

    1. I then ran the setup.exe program as administrator from the CD. Then the User Account Control 'Do you want top allow this App to make changes to your PC' dialogue box appears. Select 'Yes'

    This starts the 'Preparing to Install' program...

    and this then gets to about 50% (or where the green bar appears as above) and then suddenly this message appears...

    What is this message? Why is it not installing correctly?
