    You make sense.

As I explained Picasa is a Google Program.

But you would also have to reinstall Picasa to be able to read its files.

Here is a link to the Picasa Forums for the best information about this:

    Cheers.

re:  Picasa.ini' files (Windows and Mac) contain a record of the unsaved changes

"Unsaved changes" can be misleading.  Near as I can figure out, one of Picasa's brilliant ideas was to leave the original files alone.  Instead it would display modified versions of your originals based on editing information in your ini file.

Meaning, ALL the edits you've made in Picasa are proprietary to Picasa and do not translate beyond its boundaries.

If you're curious, look at a photo you've edited in some obvious way in Picasa and then look at the same photo using Microsoft whatever.

A big question for those of us with years-worth of information added to our photos through the Picasa software is: How can we rescue as much of that vast amount of work with the least amount of additional work?

I'm assuming some version of a gang Export would be what is being aimed for.

    Any ideas?

    Hi,

Read this information from Google about their Program.

For further information kindly ask in the Google Forums:

    https://support.google.com/picasa/answer/11257?hl=en

    Picasa.ini files

.Picasa.ini' files (Windows and Mac) contain a record of the unsaved changes - like edits, stars or rotations - that you've made to your photos. All unsaved changes made within the same folder of images will be saved in a single hidden '.picasa.ini' file in the same folder. The '.picasa.ini' file serves as a backup to Picasa's photo database for all of your unsaved changes. Should your database become corrupt, Picasa will use these '.picasa.ini' files to rebuild your photo database. Learn more about rebuilding a corrupt photo database.

In general, it's best not to remove the '.picasa.ini' files unless you're permanently uninstalling the software. Learn more

As of Picasa for Windows version 71.18, all newly created .ini files are named '.picasa.ini'. Existing Windows '.picasa.ini' files will continue to be valid and accept changes.

    Cheers.

In AUGUST 2013 window7 (due to problems) was replaced with windows vista by Toshiba. I had up graded with their up grade to windows 7 after I bought the PC. (am I making sense). Any way I have had vista for a year. Before I re-installed vista I ran a back up and have alot of .Picasa.ini. on the back up CD. I did have it for a short time on vista but deleted it from program and features. Is there any way to recover these or should I delete these .picasa.ini. files/extensions whatever they are called?
