Is Avast! Antivirus Known To Effect PC Performance?

Hello there. Recently, (A couple of days go to be exact..), I

switched from mcaffee to Avast! Due to my mcaffee

trial expiring. I switched to Avast! because it was the second

best antivirus I knew about, at least, from what I remember.

I ran a full system scan shortly after installing Avast! to

find there were no threats detected.

Yesterday, I was all set to go to bed and I shut down my

computer the right way, by using the "Shut down" button on

the start menu in Windows 8.1 . I turned off my screen to find it

was still trying to shut down 10 minutes later, this is something

that usually, doesn't even take 20 seconds for me, so I figured

the PC hung and thought nothing of it, so I used the power

button to hard power off.

I turned my computer on about 20-25 minutes ago to find it

took 2-3 minutes (After entering password) to log on.

Now I cant uninstall the avat antivirus.

I can't shutdown my laptop

Anyone please help me

    Hi,

Did you uninstall McAfee completely before installing Avast?

You can't have 2 AVs installed at the same time.

You need to remove McAfee completely and get Windows Defender started again as 3rd party AVs disable Windows Defender (which is an Anti-virus) by default and do a thorough scan of your machine for Malware.

    Use the McAfee Removal Tool.

    https://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=TS101331

And remove Avast and start Windows Defender.

    How to restart Defender:

    https://www.winhelp.us/configure-windows-defender-in-windows-8.html

If you've previously uninstalled a third-party antivirus product (avast!, AVG, Norton/Symantec, McAfee or some other product), you might see a dialog that states that Windows Defender is turned off. In that case, either click Action Center's white flag icon in Taskbar Notification Area (aka System Tray) and clickTurn on virus protection (Important) or Turn on spyware protection (Important), or open Control Panel (Windows Key+X has a nice shortcut), type action into Search field, clickAction Center and then click one of the Turn on now buttons in Security section.

Please note that Action Center might have no red warning icon for several days after you've removed a third-party virus protection tool.

    Cheers.
