I can find lots of commentary on how to disable this service, but I only have one Windows device, so I'd like some documentation what exactly (not generally) this service is trying to do. No such documentation found, so far.

    Hi JayLyle,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

As per the issue description, I understand that you are willing to know what “SettingSyncHost.exe” do.

“SettingSyncHost.exe” is the process that synchronizes your system settings with your other devices so that changing your wallpaper/color on one computer changes all your other computers.  It also syncs your Internet Explorer, mail app, OneDrive, Xbox and other useful apps settings.

We have a dedicated forum support for systems on domain issues, I would suggest you to post your query on Microsoft TechNet forum for this issue. There you can get more effective and appropriate suggestions by experts familiar with this topic.
