Malwarebytes.. The best for running now and again. Uncheck the option to run the Pro trial version when it is offered to you during installation..

ADWcleaner.. This is a good follow-up having run Malwarebytes. It sometimes gets stuff which Malwarebytes leaves behind. On the website, only click on the download button directly below this 'AdwCleaner 5.0.2.6 Download'. Any other 'download' button on the page will get you into more trouble than Malwarebytes can handle alone.. :-)

No.  Microsoft Security Essentials is an anti-virus program and you shouldn't have two anti-virus real-time scanners on the same computer.

MSE was deprecated for both Windows 8 and 10.  The others are anti-malware and are run on demand (at least the free versions).

Having said that, I suggest that you uninstall both from Windows 7 before re-doing the upgrade and then re-install after the upgrade with the latest versions.

    Hi,

When I upgraded to Windows 10 from 7, I had Security Essentials and Defender conflicting and it told me that Defender was not working.

People on here said that I had to back up to Windows 7 and uninstall Essentials.

My question - will Malwarebytes or ADWcleaner  inhibit the Microsoft antivirus programs?

    Garry

Malwarebytes Free.  I also suggest SuperAntiSpyWare, also free.  I use both in on-demand mode.  Just search for them.  They are both excellent.  You will see Malwarebytes especially frequently recommended here in the forums.
