[Solved] Windows Update Error 0x80070057

I have two laptops that were updating fine until the last Tuesday updates. Both are Windows 10 v 1703, one is a Home edition, the other Pro. They were completely updated until now.

I am getting  Error 0x80070057 on all updates (Windows and Office). The retry button is there, but they always fail. I tried the troubleshooter that only found I have pending updates.

I had to manually install all the updates.

I have read some previous threads with this error. None of the solutions suggested there worked.

Thanks for any help.

    Problem solved!

In the end it was a third party software called Cybereason Ransomefree v 2.2.5.1. On one PC I uninstalled and the updates and store started working again. On the other PC I updated Ransomefree to **v 2.3.0.**0 and it solved the problem.

Thanks to Erik from Superuser from coming up with the answer.

So mark this as solved. :)

    1. For Windows update I used Microsoft Catalog, for Office updates I used Microsoft Download Center.

2.The Os build after the updates is 15063.413. I don't know what it was before the updates.

3.No changes whatsoever were made to either laptops before or after the error.

    1. I have run sfc /scannow on both laptops - no errors found.
    2. I have reset windows update components per the article https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/971058/how-do-i-reset-windows-update-components

After a restart, checking for updates finds several Windows , Adobe flash and Office updates. They all fail to install with error 0x80070057.

    Any ideas?

After reading some more similar posts I see that I get the same error when trying to download or update from the Microsoft Store app .
