DHCP server does not register newly leased IP addresses in DNS

We noted that our DHCP server doesn’t register newly leased IP addresses in DNS. The DHCP log file shows DNS update failed. It has been happening for a long time. Please help advice.

Thanks for posting in Q&A platform.

Before we go further, I would like to confirm the following information with you:

A. May I know how the DNS tag was configured in IPv4 Properties of DHCP server? Was Always dynamically update DNS records selected?

If yes, may I know have you configured credential for DNS dynamic update on DHCP server? You can check for it on Advanced tab in IPv4 Properties.

B. Meanwhile, was DHCP failover relationship configured?

Hi Sunny,

A. Yes, always dynamically update DNS records was selected. And we have added DHCP server into DnsUpdateProxy.

B. Yes, we have hot standby mode.

Actually this problem often happens after changing the DHCP dynamic update option. Check the documents as below:

“Also, all the objects that are created by the members of the DnsUpdateProxy group are not secured. Therefore, the first user who is not a member of the DnsUpdateProxy group and that modifies the set of records that is associated with a DNS name becomes its owner. When legacy clients are upgraded, they can take ownership of their name records at the DNS server.”

This is unsecure and anyone who is out of this group tries to update the record, he will take the ownership and prevent others from updating this record.
