So called update KB4023057 kills my internet. How to stop it from downloading?

This question has been asked a number of times with absolutely no reply.

Issue is?

Win 10 1609 home - If I go into admin/services/windows update and disable has no effect as it auto downloads as an app not as an update.

Sneakey? I am Not sure but obviously NOT.

Look at new updates and its is not there but look at new apps and there it is. Even after re-imaging system to a time when this KB did not exist.

Tried wshideshow and it is not there so cannot hide it.

 -

troubleshooter says -wifi does not have a valid IP connection - running troubleshooter again then gives - website (www.m===s===.com) is on line but isnt responding to communication attempt.

All the ipconfig and netsh commands do not work. Resetting router does not work.

No reply from msoft and nothing on the net yet but 160 peeps have reported this issue since release oct 2017.

Very tiring to re-image and reset up drivers etc only to see this KB back.

Update 1790 kills my toshiba bluetooth so no help there.

HP laptop on win 10 pro 1709 is ok and no issue.

What to do now to prevent it from downloading and updating win10 as it kills my internet and no way i know of fixing ?

Yes there is NO KB4023057 because, as I have explained if you chose to read my issue, it is an app, NOT an update. This means it will not appear as an update, cannot be stopped via a service or the wsshowhide.diagcab  app.

I shall write that again: it is an app, NOT an update. This means it will not appear as an update, cannot be stopped via a service or the wsshowhide.diagcab  app.

    Yes, I am on 1607.

I shall try the 1703 upgrade. Hopefully, it wont kill my bluetooth as 1709 does.

Nothing anywhere on the internet ? Well, put KB4023507 into google search and you will see a number of entries. Like those following. If you just want to wait until Window 10 updaters sort all this rubbish out and not download 1790 I have done the following.

Go to settings, click network and internet, click wi-fi, click your network connection, click...make your connection metered, Close.

OK I'm new computers and this does mean you have to give permission to other updates but when the Window up date appears you can press the remind me later button.

Not technical stuff like listed above but it works for me. My internet speed went from 20 mbps to .5 mbps after download and all my drivers etc are up to date. Detete update and I'm back to 20.

Thinking of moving to the dark side....Apple :-(

    there is NO KB4023057 because

    It's just a number.   ; )

This update is also offered directly to Windows Update Client for some devices that have not installed the most recent updates.

Looks like you are not up-to-date in your maintenance.  What build version do you have now?  Greg's suggestion to get off 1607 would at least help Windows Home owners defer this issue for a few months...

    running home 1607

not sure why a life cycle is of any use for me.

that kb is the last 'update' but kills my net and my bluetooth.

If it is just a number then why does it appear as an installed program (not an upgrade)

I have managed to kill/ stop it downloading however i have a new issue with an unwanted win10upgrade assistant.

delete it and it get pushed again. Sick of 'remind me later' response

managed to lock 2 exe files - win10apgrade(r)app.exe which prevents MS from overwriting but now I get

'cant create files. Please check if you have permission to write to the installation dir'

which is ok because i locked those exe permissions so MS cannot write to the win10upgrade dir. So sorry am I... not.

but I now have to continually click Ok as the apps are pushed incessantly. (every time I delete the dir no less)

I dont want to do an upgrade because 1709 kills my internet so I have to reimage and there begins my issues again.

All I want is a means of stopping this 'new malware' annoyance.

Maybe i just go back to Win7

Perhaps, if I am told, i can add the pusher location into my hosts file and block it from there.

    running home 1607

If you don't have  March 22, 2018—KB4088889 (OS Build 14393.2155)  you could be proving my point.

not sure why a life cycle is of any use for me.

The forum editor deleted a line that I had included in my quote.

    <quote>

    * Home edition does not support the deferral of feature updates and will therefore typically receive a new version of Windows 10 prior to the end-of-service date shown.

    </quote>

dont want to do an upgrade because 1709 kills my internet

So, again, as Greg mentioned you could try 1703 and possibly get a reprieve until October or you could give us some details about "kills my internet" and maybe we could help you find a workaround for whatever that is.

    FYI

    Robert
