I've tried everything in my power to get rid of the write-protection off of my USB that I just got. I've tried:

Typing "diskpart attributes disk clear readonly" in Diskpart. That didn't work.

Setting WriteProtect 1 to 0 in regedit. That didn't work.

And no, mine don't have a write protection switch on my thumb drive.

you can try this, but be careful, put in install DVD or USB media, when you get to the section to select drive and to format for an install, see if you can then delete that )bytes partition and format the drive there. But if not, then the USB is not usable except for what is on it now. check their website

you could also try and boot to usb installation, log on and then take over ownership of the drive as mentioned. But select admins, owner rights, users, everyone,

and then select full control for them all by double clicking each one>>advanced permissions apply ok apply ok, resart pc and boot to this os on now and try again or format with install dvd. usb in install progress.

I bet you can not even use it now.

hey try this, open the wintoflash program you used to install the OS with as if you were installing it on a new drive, and see if their program will reformat it.

that may be best chance to unlock the drive to format with their program only.

Disk 1 is my 2nd hard drive. It is not a thumb drive.

NO, disk 0 and disk 1 are your drives

I suspect disk 2 is part of 3 and the thumb drive

this is why I said go into disk management so you have clear view

if you installed windows install media on it,  you may not be able to use it for anything again.

if it is an actual windows installation you booted to and used as an OS, then should be able to clear it and use it.
