ICS file with REQUEST METHOD and recurrences works fine in Outlook, but does not work in Outlook Web App

Outlook and Outlook web apps behave very differently when I send an ICS attachment file with METHOD:REQUEST, a recurrence rule and at least 1 recurrence exception.

For example I follow these steps:

  • create an appointment in Outlook Web App with 3 recurrences and then modify the times for one of the recurrences
  • save the appointment to iCalendar in Outlook Desktop App.
  • modify in the iCalendar file the method from PUBLISH to REQUEST.
  • Send an email with the attached modified ICS file to myself.

Now in Outlook Web App, I click on "Add to calendar", but all the recurrences have the same time. If I open the ICS from Outlook Desktop App, everything works correctly.

According to "[RFC5546] Section 3.2.2 REQUEST", method REQUEST together with exceptions defined in VEVENT sections with RECURRENCE-ID should work correctly, and it works but only in Outlook Desktop. (I have version Outlook 2016).

Kind Regards,
