updating windows 10 v.1709 fails - error 0x80246010

Hi,

I have the version 1607, my PC tries and tries to download the new version 1709 for weeks and fails every time to install it. The last error code I received is  0x80246010 but I had a few others.

I tried several things:

  • emptying downloads
  • windows troubleshooter (who fixed an update issue but no difference so far)

...

Has it sth to do with the fact that the version 1703 isn't installed on my PC?

Thanks for your help

    Hi,

There are lots of error codes that occurs during or after updates, and they are normally solved by performing Windows Update Troubleshooter. There are a few troubleshooting that can also be performed if the issue persist after using the update troubleshooter, such as downloading latest SSU, fixing Windows file corruption, or performing in-place upgrade. These troubleshooting steps are available on this link.

Regarding your concern about if it has something to do with updating from 1607 to 1709, you can check this article about How to Upgrade to Windows 10 Version 1709 Fall Creators Update Using ISO File from Versions 1703, 1607, 1511 or 1507.

    Hi,

thank you for your reply but nothing helped.

I tried everything and nothing improved my issue.

    Here my PC info:

    Edition: Windows 10 HOME

    Version: 1607

    OS Build: 14393.2125

    Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU 2020M @ 2.40GHz 2.40GHz

    Installed RAM : 4.,GB (3,89GB usable)

System Type: 60-bit operating system, x64-based processor

Does it have sth to do with the the fact that I do not have the version 1703, the one between 1607 and 1709?

When I try to download and install any KB of the version 1703 a window pops up with the info that this update is not compatible with my PC.

It's beginning to be worrying because apparently as from April 10th I won't be able to use my PC anymore without the new update...

    Thanks for your help again

    Claire

    Hello Claire,

We truly appreciate your detailed response. When you're having trouble installing updates, it could be due to your current Windows version. Your computer is truly to install new updates to an older version so it might be incompatible.

The latest Windows 10 version is version 1709. We would encourage you to perform an In-place Upgrade with Windows 10 version 1709. Please refer to the easy, simple step-by-step guide provided by one of our Support Engineer PaulSey on this article: How to perform an In-place Upgrade with Windows 10 Step-by-Step Guide.

Hope this helps and let us know if it works.

    Hello Noela,

    unfortunately it didn't work neither.

it couldn't "determine whether there is enough memory on my PC"

On my hard disk there is 107 GB free out of 221 GB....

that should be enough, shouldn't it?

Thanks for your help  to solve my problem

    Claire
