This file is potentially unsafe to open - need workaround

I downloaded a file from Adobe in order to reinstall an earlier version of Photoshop I had purchased from them. When I attempt to open the file, I get the "This file is potentially unsafe to open" message.

I have turned off my McAfee firewall and all other security checks for 15 minutes while doing this...still get the message.

Also modified the settings in Windows Defender to "off" while attempting to open the file. Still getting message

Please help!

    Hi Deb,

At times, you may download a file from the Internet or receive one by email. Windows classifies certain files as unsafe downloads and attachments by identifying the files type and the security settings for each file. To unblock your file, follow the steps given below:

    1. Right-click on your file.
    2. Select Properties.
    3. Make sure that you are on General tab.
    4. In the Security option, you may see the message This file came from another computer and might be blocked to help protect this computer. Click on Unblock button.

Let us know if you have other concerns.

I have the same problem with this "This file is potentially unsafe to open".

I unblocked it (for the folder) but nothing happens.

    What to do next?

    Hi Leesia,

Most of the time, this message appears due to security reasons. For us to provide the best resolution possible, we would like to ask the following:

    • Is this happening on all downloaded file/folder?
    • Have you tried temporarily disabling your antivirus software?

We're looking forward to your reply.
