Display driver failed to start error when playing games

My patience with this error is at breaking point. Ever since that bloody Fall Creator update my PC has had nothing but problems. Every fix i have done seems to only be temporary because out of the blue, this stupid error springs up on me. I have reinstalled windows god knows how many times, I've reinstalled my graphics card drivers even more. Initially I dialled back to a previous build where my pc worked and that was successful for many months. Then version 1804 came out and messed everything up again. Even when rolling back the previous build, the problem followed me. Bad or corrupt coding (maybe both) I assume because these problems only started with these stupid updates.

Like i said after that I tried reinstalling windows, nothing. I tried to do clean installations of my graphics card and nothing still. Then I learned that it was actually the inbuilt windows gaming bar tool that apparently can cause crashes. So I unticked every single box in the gaming setting and once more it worked perfectly for a while. At least it did until I came back from holiday and turned my pc back on only to have it crash after an hour (but this time i wasn't playing a game) and become trapped in an infinite boot cycle. I managed to get rid of it but having to reinstall windows again from a USB and supposedly it worked for like a day. I was playing Dragon Age Inquisition all of yesterday evening just fine until about 10pm or so when my pc randomly restarted. Today though back to the old error of Display driver failed to start.

So I've come full circle and this problem is still around. I really have no idea what more I can do. These forced updates have ruined my gaming pc and I'm 100% certain this is purely a software issue because I've seen so many posts online about others having these problems since these updates. I can think of no other workarounds.

My specs are this:

Operating System: Windows 10 Home 64-bit (10.0, Build 17134) (17134.rs4_release.180410-1804)

System Manufacturer: MSI

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2310 CPU @ 2.90GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.9GHz

RAM: 8GB

Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 (Driver version: 398.36)

Sorry I have another question. So I've installed version 1703 now and I'm just wondering about stopping the specific updates that will lead to the latest build. I've looked at the list of hidden updates but I'm not sure if they are safe to install or not. None of them have the number 1803 or any numbers over 1703 but there is one that says culminative update for 1703. I'm hesitant having spent the whole day trying to fix this.

Yeah it still says on the choose what to keep screen of the installation that i can only select "nothing". The other two options are greyed out. At the bottom it says "Your files, apps, and settings can't be kept because your current version of windows might be installed in an unsupported directory or you're trying to install an older version of windows".

    Use the one called Rufus:

    http://rufus.akeo.ie/

You can download Rufus, for free.

After downloading Rufus, connect your thumb drive, launch Rufus application, click in the Device list box then choose your thumb drive.

Click in the list box then choose your partition scheme. If you select the ISO, Rufus will automatically select the appropriate options for you. Next, click in the File system list box, then choose FAT32. If your thumb drive is larger than 32 GBs, choose exFAT.

Leave the default Cluster size then enter a label for your thumb drive.

Click the choose disk image icon, browse to where the ISO file is located, select it then click Open.

Click Start to copy the files to the thumb drive.

If you have any files on the thumb drive, they will be deleted.

Wait while the files are copied to your thumb drive

    Close when complete

Open File Explorer, then launch setup to begin the installation.

Sorry I'm really confused. I cant figure out how you're meant to get that version 1703 file onto a usb. I'm looking at your guide but there are so many different links I don't know which one to press. There is one for windows creator tool which when downloaded only gives the current 1803 version. What programme are you meant to use to transfer the data i downloaded onto a usb?
