Settings app crashes accessing "Focus Assist" settings

Question

Hi,

I'm experiencing the following issue on a system I just fully reinstalled (i.e. including a reformat of the HDD; I'm now running build 17134.228).

Every time I try to access the "Focus Assist" settings in the Settings app, it just dies.

Any clue?

Ditto... My notifications frequently show in the icon, but show as empty when I open the pane.  And focus assist won't turn on and crashes when I try to open it in settings. This has been happening for about two weeks now. The notification problem fixes itself after reboot, but I'm not sure about the focus assist problem. Regardless, it always comes back after a few hours. There clearly seems to be a bug in the most recent update.

Confirmed, exact same situation here. As soon as I started the service "Windows Push Notifications User Service_d8bb5", boom works great.

I upgraded AVAST yesterday and it seemed to be better but then this morning it was back. But starting that service like you mentioned gets it working.

I also just installed that new Avast version 18.7.2354 (build 18.7.4041.0)

I'm not sure whether it's the reboot or the new Avast that fixed it, but my notification center icon is dark again with a white outline. Hope it stays like that :)

That avast link I put earlier was a bit empty when I checked last night. I see there are some replies now.

I checked my services before I updated Avast and rebooted, and I found that I only had "*Windows Push Notification System Service"*in my list. The one you mentioned with "User Service_193fbd92" wasn't even there. But it did show after the reboot. The number on my service is different though (Service_8fc7d). I'm guessing here, but it might be a specific service linked to a user. Every user gets different notifications, and therefor a different service?

Anyways, seems to be fixed for now. I'll keep this page up for a few days though ;)

Edit:

Wanted to add that after reinstalling Avast, silent mode was off. I switched that back on, just to test if that affects anything. Time will tell.

Yep, I'm running Avast.  I just got an update from Avast with a release date of Oct. 9 5:08:34 AM.  The current version is 18.7.2354 (build 18.7.4041.0).

Since that update, I have not experienced the problem with Focus Assist.

I had this same exact problem on my Microsoft Surface Pro 2.

The most recent update for Windows 10 seems to have fixed the problem for me (2018-09 Update for Windows 10 Version 1803 for x64-based Systems (KB100347)).
