How do I add a new user for a folder security icon.  When I click on add I get I get the screen below but I can not seem to add a new user.  I would like to add a new user name  that I can use on my 3 PCs so that can all of the PCs have access to the folder and only the 3 PCs.  When ever I create a new name I get a message that the object named cannot be found.

Please advise

No, I do not have a Neil user account.  If I add a Neil account will her PC be able to share a folder on my PC within her account?

My goal it to share various folders between my 3 PCs in a secure manner and not use the object "everyone".  What is the best method to do that?

If you look my example steps 4.2 and 4.3 you can see that I have made share for everyone, but default settings in security tab allow access only for those users who have account on that PC (Authenticated users and POACER\Users).

In Share tab permission "Everyone" is OK (it only tell who can see that folder) and settings in Security tab control entry to that share and this one you don't want set to "Everyone".

In my case I have only one username (with same password) in all PC's and all shares work between PC's without any problems. If I create account "Test User" to my laptop and sign in with that account I can connect shares on my desktop only by entering my own username and password which I have on desktop

I am sorry but still do not follow you.  I have everyone for the share but in the security is where I am still having the problem.  The only choices I have under security on my main PC are: "Everyone", "SYSTEM", "Neil (HPENY\Neil)", Neil_Admin (HPENVY\Neil_Admin)", and "Administration (HPENVY\Administrators".

So how do I restrict the security access to only computers on my home network?

Are you referring about C:\Users\Public folder? Turn Off Public folder sharing.

User folders in C:\Users are shared only for individual users.

If you create new folder with Share permission to "Everyone" then default security settings are: (Note! NO "Everyone")

    • Authenticated Users
    • SYSTEM
    • Administrators (PC\Administrators)
    • Users (PC\Users)

I have attached a screen print of the folder "Test" that I created.  The folder is not in the public folders.  Are you saying that I should have "Everyone" as allowed full control?

Please advise, sorry to take so much of your time
