How do I add a new user for a folder security icon.  When I click on add I get I get the screen below but I can not seem to add a new user.  I would like to add a new user name  that I can use on my 3 PCs so that can all of the PCs have access to the folder and only the 3 PCs.  When ever I create a new name I get a message that the object named cannot be found.

Please advise

You have something wrong with that folder.

There shouldn't have an option Everyone!!!

What is Security settings for folder C:\User\Neil?

    I create folder C:\Users\MyName\Documents\test

    and Security settings are:

    • SYSTEM
    • "My Name"
    • Administrators

What if you make that shared folder Test like C:\Test and share to every one and see what security settings there is then.

The parent folder of the previous test folder has everyone as allowed and actually selected.

I created a folder in the root of C: which is shown below.  It also had Everyone as a choice but I can very easily delete everyone as shown in the attached image.

So if I delete everyone as a choice which of the other 3 selections should I choose that will allow anyone on my network to access the folder and any subfolder (does the other user need to be an admin?).

    Thanks for your help

Now your personal folders are available to all users on your network.

In your C:\Users\Neil: Go to security tab and delete that "Everyone" it shouldn't be there!

When you do share remove that "Everyone" and use only user names.

Is there "Everyone" on C:\ security?

So I did not have "everyone" in the root of c:.  I already had "Authenticated Users" in the root but it has nothing allowed, should I leave it with nothing allowed (really only want the "Documents" folders available for sharing and full control.

I did check the full control for "Authenticated Users" in the root directory and I got some error message for folders like the recycle folder and program folders.

I added "Authenticated Users" to the document folder and gave full control.  Should I then go to other PCs and make sure "Authenticated Users" is also in the documents folder of those PCs so all PCs can access all of the Documents folders?
