Thai Font in the system is too small

The English font is fine, but the Thai language is too small. This occurs in all system letters of Microsoft Office that I use (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, and so on).

I did try to change in [Display], but then in order to enlarge the Thai font enough to be able to see clearly, I will have to blow up the English font (as well as everything else) to at least 200%. I also use Japanese, which is has no problem.

    Dear Wankaew Sitdhigun,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

We understand that you are using Thai in Microsoft office to display fonts that are too small.

Based on your description, we have tested and queried the appropriate thread information and we are getting the corresponding message in different styles of Thai fonts. We have also received issues from other users that the display is too small when using Thai fonts in Office programs.

We are actively gathering more information to help further review and fix this issue.

In the meantime, in order to help you find out if the cause of the issue is related to an error in your system or Office program, you can try the following actions to help you find out:

    1. Change the regional setting information in your system:

You can press Windows+Q to display the search box, type "Region", open it in the Control Panel, open it, select "Manage", click "Change system settings for this region. "

You can try to check "Beta: Use Unicode UTH-8 for worldwide language support" in the pop-up page.

After checking the box, you can try to retype the Thai message in your office program to see if the font can be displayed normally.

    1. Reset your office program:

(Before reset, please make sure all your Office files have been backed up and saved, if you have used OneNote and outlook, you need to make sure your notes and emails are backed up to avoid loss of files, meanwhile the reset will put your Office program in its initial form, and the personalized settings you have set up, you need to save them first)

After the reset, you will need to log back into Office using your Microsoft account.

Press Windows + R , type in: regedit in the run box that opens, and press enter.

Locate the following keys to rename the Office folder (right-click on it and select Rename, e.g. rename Office to Officeold)

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office

Then re-open the word document to try the effect.

Disclaimer: Generally, modifying registry subkeys or work group is intended for advanced users, administrators, and IT Professionals. It can help fix some problems, however, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For further protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click How to back up and restore the registry in Windows - Microsoft Support to view the article.

You can also try going back to your version of Office to see if that solves the problem.

Search for cmd in the search box in the lower left corner

Command Prompt and run as administrator

Type in the following two lines one after the other, and press enter after each line

    cd %programfiles% \Common Files\microsoft shared\ClickToRun

    Officec2rclient.exe /update user updatetoversion=16.0.+version number.

Example: June 26.2023 Version 2306 (internal version 16529.20154)

    Example: officec2rclient.exe /update user updatetoversion=16.0.16529.20154

Below is the Office Update History version number.

Update history for Microsoft 365 Apps (listed by date) - Office release notes | Microsoft Learn

You can try the operation to see if it works, and if there are any updates, you can reply to us and we help you confirm the information.

Please understand that our initial response may not always resolve your issue immediately. However, we do follow up with you to provide help and more detailed information so we can work together to find a solution.

We look forward to your response.

    Best Regards,

    Zenobia,

    Thank you for your help.

However, I'm not sure if the instruction will match with my issues. Please note that I also use the windows and microsoft products license by my company and not personal, so I am limited in what I can do.

Here is the screen shot of the issue.

You will see that the size of Thai letter vs English letter (even Japanese letters) is drastically different. There is no problem with the Thai font when it is something that I input (example: เช่น ตัวอย่าง).

I also follow the instruction in [1. Change the regional setting information in your system], but my setting was already in English (US):

and I am reluctant to try and change it since, as I mentioned, this is a company device, and I am not the admin.

    Please help?

    Dear Wankaew Sitdhigun,

    Thank you for your response.

We see that you have indicated that you are limited in what you can attempt to do on your own using your company's Windows and Microsoft product license information.

In order to further help you confirm and provide you with more assistance, we need to confirm with you:

    1. What version of the company's system are you using? You can press Windows+R and type "winnver" in the run box to check your system version, or you can take a screenshot and share it with us.
    2. You are using the public Microsoft license information, what is the specific version of your license information, Office Professional Plus 2021 or others?

You can click on any Office component, click "File" - "Account" - check the product information displayed on the right side, you can also take a screenshot to confirm.

We also see that you have indicated that you are following the recommendation to change the regional setting information in your system, and we need to explain this to you:

According to the screenshot you shared with us, we can see that "Beta: Use Unicode UTH-8 for worldwide language support" is not checked on your page, so we mainly need you to check the sub-option to see if you can confirm it.

We see that you have indicated that you are not an administrator and are not willing to try, these actions are to help us troubleshoot whether there is something with the settings or Office runtime files that are causing the text to be formatted incorrectly.

If you are able to try or can contact your company's IT to help you confirm, we would like to assist in helping to confirm the operation.

You can share more information with us, and we will further provide you with more options to confirm.

We look forward to your response.

    Best Regards,

I have this problem about Thai font in Microsoft Excel too and I followed the instructions to solve the problem. FYI, when font began to get smaller, I already use UTF-8. To solve this problem, I have to use the opposite. That is, I have to uncheck the UTF-8. It's like at a point in time, maybe from Microsoft Updates, the Thai font of the system get messed up. And I have to use the alternative font, either UTF-16 or UTF-8, to correct the situation.

So, my problem now is that I already use UTF-8 for many documents that were created using old apps. And I have to use UTF-16 for Microsoft Excel which, by the way, makes me unable to read from those documents. Therefore, please try to find the long-term solution for this problem. Thank you very much.

P.S. The second solution about Registry cannot help me.
