Phone Link Gives Invalid QR Code?

Hi everyone,

When I open the Phone Link app, I click on "Open QR Code" on the yellow bar on the top of the app. When I do, and try to scan the QR code I get "Invalid QR Code" on my Android phone.

I have attached a screenshot. There are no instructions to generate a valid code. Can anyone help?

    Nothing works.

If Microsoft actually made it possible to use the backup method of connecting to the app (with the several-digit code), perhaps it would.

Also, this wasn't the result of "failed attempts", it just popped up out of the blue. One day it was working, the next it wasn't.

This is so frustrating. It's also poorly designed software.

I tried removing the devices on the phone link app.

Eventually, I was redirected to "aka.ms/addPC". I tried that and got a code to enter on my phone. The only problem is the code contains LETTERS and on the phone link app the keyboard only has NUMBERS.

    This is absurd.

    ALTERNATIVE SOLUTION FOUND:

Hi there, I'm just commenting on a solution I found for future troubleshooters.

As with OP, I was having issues with the phone link not syncing with my phone, and none of the advisor's suggestions helped.

    Here is my solution.

    > Search "Phone Link" in the search bar in the taskbar.
    > Within the PC Phone Link App, click "link new device."
    > Select what flavor of phone you have.
    > A QR code will appear.
    > Open "Link to Windows" on your phone.
    > Tap your associated email under the "Linked Account" section. It should be the first section within the app.
    > Tap "Add computer."

    > Tap "Continue."
    > Scan the QR code that is on the PC "Phone Link."
    > Follow the prompts for the initial setup.
    > The fault should be rectified.

The little error bar within the PC phone link that directed to a QR code did not work, but linking a new device worked. I believe the error QR code and the "set up new device" QR code are different, or the phone app can only read the QR code when setting up a new device. Either way, hopefully this is a viable solution for future troubleshooters.

    ~Good Luck.

    Hi Brett,

Kayece here, An Independent advisor and a user just like you. I will be happy to assist you today.

I understand that you are unable to use the phone link since it gives "Invalid QR Code" error. Please restart both of your device then open the Phone link app on both devices and try to scan the code again on your Phone link app in your Android phone.

If the above does now work, I suggest to remove the devices on both phone link app and start to set-up Phone link again.

I hope this is helpful. If you still have the same issue, please let me know.

    Kayece

Make sure the computer and phone are connected to the same WiFi network.
