Can Office 2019 (Single Device) Be Transferred from Defective PC, to Replacement PC?

Bought a new HP Spectre 360x laptop, as well as an MS Office 2019 (single device) product key download.  There were keyboard problems with the laptop from the onset (having to hit the space bar 5 or 6 times to get a single space) and HP is replacing the PC with a new one.

Question: Is the $149 spent for Office 2019 product key/download lost, or will Microsoft allow the software to be installed on the replacement device?

Hi JennytheCat, once you purchased Office 2019, that is yours completely and you can transfer that licence any time you need and it will cost you nothing . . .

You need to deactivate your previous Installation and then re-install Office 2019

On the New Laptop, go to https://office.com/myaccount and sign in using your Microsoft account, if prompted

    Select Install

Under Install information, locate the old Laptop which Office was installed on

Select Deactivate Install to deactivate the Office installation

Then, click Install to install Office

    Jenny

You cannot deactivate Office 2019.  You need to uninstall it before sending your computer back to HP. For your information go to your Office Account as suggested below at:

https://www.office.com/Myaccoun  Click on Install link>Then click on Need help installing?

Halfway down the page you will see:

Move Office to another computer <ul><br><li><br><p style="color:#2f2f2f"><a href="https://support.office.com/en-gb/article/uninstall-office-from-a-pc-9dd49b83-264a-477a-8fcc-2fdf5dbf61d8" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer">Uninstall Office</a> from the original computer.</p><br></li><li><br><p style="color:#2f2f2f">On the new computer, sign in to your <a href="https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?LinkId=317004" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer"><br>My Account</a> page and click <strong>Install</strong>. After you finish installing, you may be asked to activate Office over the phone.</p><br></li></ul>

PS: Just to be clear: once you get your replacement computer you will not need the Product Key/Activation Code.  You need to sign into your Office Account using the email address and password for the Microsoft Account that you used when you first installed your Office 2019 on your old computer.  You should not need the Product Key again.  BUT keep it safe as it is your proof of purchase.

    Thank You Dave!

Just to clarify: First, need to "deactivate" Office 2019 on the defective laptop before shipping it back to HP; then I will be able to re-use the MS Office 2019 activation code on the replacement laptop?

    Hi JennytheCat

Yes, it would be best to deactivate that installation from the Office.com website before shipping it back to HP

Then when you get the replacement, you can install Office 2019 onto that with no problem at all . . .

You have no need to use your Activation code on the replacement, just go to https://office.com/myaccount and sign in using your Microsoft account, if prompted

Select Install - then click Install to install Office

    Step 1: Deactivate the license:

From any computer, go to your Microsoft account, Installs page and sign in using your Microsoft account, if prompted.

    https://account.microsoft.com/services/office/i...

Under PC/Mac installs used, locate the computer where you want to deactivate Office 365.

Select Deactivate to deactivate Office on the PC or Mac.

Step 2: proceed to reinstall Office on the new computer:

    Go to http://www.office.com/setup

If you experience a problem reactivating, you can contact support and they will grant the reactivation:
