ISO image for software installation to virtual machine

Jose E Calderon 1 Reputation point

I am new to Windows server Hyper-V . I have created few virtual machines each with a different operating systems. In addition , I have a software installation file that will like to attached as a virtual DVD such as how the ISO file is prepared during the Operating system installation.

I do not want to download the installation file from each virtual machine . I want to avoid unecesary and redundant bandwidth consumption. I have the installation file in the main root of the Windows Server datacenter with 5 virtual machines created using Hyper-V . My quesiton is how create a virtual DVD holding the software installation files and how I attached this virtual DVD to each of the created virtual machines?

I understand that your requirement is to install a software on each virtual machine. At the same time, in order to reduce repetitive operations, you hope to be able to package this program into a virtual DVD and then mount it to the VMs on your Hyper-V. Basically, we can only mount the system image to the VM. After massive researching, it seems that we have not found a scenario that can package an application into a virtual DVD and mount it to the VMs.

For the same VM system version, if you want to install a certain application in batches, we can generally create a golden image by creating a VM template, and then use it for each VM. But according to your description, it seems that your system is a different mirror. In this case, we have no official method to install a certain application in batches. Thank you for your understanding.

If you want to know more about how to create a golden image, here is the link:

In addition, I noticed that you may want to reduce the bandwidth for each virtual machine to download the application from the Internet. For this, we can put the installation package of the program on the host, and then enable Enhanced session mode, then the host copy the files directly to the VMs.

Thank you for your time! If you have any other concerns, please feel free to feedback. Hope you have a nice time using our Hyper-V product!

    Best wishes
