Does Personal Vault always require you to set it up?

I have a Microsoft 365 Family Edition license, which includes OneDrive for all my family members. Some months ago, I set up the Personal Vault in my OneDrive. Then placed files in there which are very personal, that I wanted the extra protection that Personal Vault brings with it. At this point I decided all was go, so I went about my business doing other things.

The files in my Personal Vault aren't ones that I'm going to review often. In fact, it will stay untouched for months before I must get back into them. Today happened to be one of those infrequent times where I needed to get into it. I entered the OneDrive app on my Windows 10 machine, then started looking for the Personal Vault. I was surprised to not be able to see if. I did come across a shortcut to my Personal Vault. That surprised me - where is there a shortcut but not the actual Personal Vault?

Nevertheless, I decided to double click on it. It told me that it was setting up my Personal Vault for first time use?!?!?!

My heart sank. What's happened to all the vital information I saved there months ago? I went through the process. It seemed to bring my files back, but I'll tell you, I don't like that at all. Why call it "setting up Personal Vault for first time use" if it is in fact NOT first-time use? That is very misleading. So, did it in fact restore my Personal Vault? Was it in fact, not setting me up, but I guess restoring? Is this store of language, behavior, etc., something that I'm to expect? If I don't open my Personal Vault often, is this the sort of thing I must expect? Should I open my Personal Vault often for no other reason than to stop this "setting up for first time use" stuff?

<<As said in this article, "To ensure privacy, Personal Vault items do not appear in search results", "You will see the Personal Vault icon in your OneDrive folders or when you click the OneDrive taskbar icon" and "Because your Personal Vault is a secure folder, it appears as a shortcut in your file list, rather than the folder list".

Are you asked to "set up Personal Vault for first time use" every time you use Personal Vault?
You could provide related screenshot to better troubleshoot your issue.
Generally, for security, your Personal Vault automatically locks when you're not actively using it.

Besides, do you use Personal Vault on the same PC or another?
Based on my research, you will need to set up OneDrive Personal Vault separately on each device where you want to use it.

Any misunderstandings or updates, please let me know.
