I have a folder of icons that I use for my design work and after moving to Windows 10, the explorer shows black background where it should be transparent/white. It makes working very hard especially when icon itself is primarily dark colors. Please suggest a fix to change colors.

Hello, I understand that you are having some problems. You may need to try changing the default app for opening photos. Go to settings, go to Applications, and click on Default apps. Then find choose default apps by file type and find .png. Select that and click on paint. This should solve the issue.

    Hope this helps! :-)

Hi Vee. I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 9 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

Sounds like Explorer has been set to Dark Mode as shown here: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/microsoft...

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

Hi Greg. My color scheme is already dark and changing it didn't have any effect.

@RyoTakagi - I can see white background in Paint and Photoshop but that doesn't change the background color in explorer.

There are so many threads complaining of this issue, why is Windows not fixing it?

Ok I see your screenshot now, that it's the icon background and not Explorer as you'd said.

    Try resetting the icon cache:
