Temp Folder

I have a question regarding the temp folder and Windows 10.  I understand some software programs need to access the temp folder for them to work.  First thing in the morning, after a reboot the temp folder is not there, and Windows needs to 'create it'.  My question is - what is the default for Windows 10 in relation to creating / deleting the temp folder.  Should it always be there and always be accessible, or does it delete after a reboot.

Please try and keep answers as dumb as possible, as this is something I don't have a lot of knowledge about. Thanks,

    Hi  Tanya247602

I am an Independent advisor And I'm here to help you!!

    How you doing today?

The Temporary folder can usually be located like this:

On the keyboard, press and hold the WINDOWS key, and then press R.

In the Run window, type %TEMP%, and then click OK.

    or in this way:

Instead of using the Run window, there are a couple of methods that can also be used to access the temporary folder: type %tmp% in the search field at the bottom of the Start menu

You can also Use the following System File Checker tool to repair damaged or missing files.

Scan your computer with the file checker.

I hope it helps you, have a nice day!!!

    Hi Wilfredo_Soto

I appreciate your response, but my question is specifically - Should it (the temp folder) always be there and always be accessible, or does it delete after a reboot?

    Hi Tanya,

Your Temp folder should always exist, it is never deleted by the Windows system. Are you getting an error popup regarding your Temp folder?

If so, please post a screenshot of that error you are seeing and I will try to resolve this for you . . .

Thanks for all your input, perhaps I need to be a little more specific in my question.

What I specifically want to know, is:

Does windows clean up the temp folder as a housekeeping task when a computer is rebooted (i.e. if I was to use software in the morning after a fresh reboot, and that software does not create a 'temp folder', would it mean that the software would not be able to find the windows temp folder?

Hope this is a little clearer.

    Thanks again!
