Windows Photos app not opening print dialog

Using latest Photos app 2020.20120.4004.0 (although it was experiencing the same issue on older versions) on Windows 10 Enterprise 20h2, when a user clicks the print button nothing happens.

We are on an Active Directory domain running Server 2019, and if an admin logs into a PC the print dialog opens fine, so it looks like a permission issue for standard users.

Does anyone have any ideas where to start looking in group policy settings etc. to start troubleshooting? Windows Event Viewer doesn't have anything useful, unless there is an event log for store apps that I don't know about...

Any help greatly appreciated.

Up to 10 attachments (including images) can be used with a maximum of 3.0 MiB each and 30.0 MiB total.

What if you disconnect from the domain?
Are you facing the same issue?
Are you facing this issue with other applications?

Hello @EsherCollegeITServices-2893

If that's a permission issue, you could export group policy result by using :

1) gpresult;
2) Group Policy Management Console.

Best Regards
Karlie

Thanks, I have checked the above but no luck. It's not an issue with applying a group policy, it's an issue with the app itself not opening the print dialog box.

Hi, I have the same problem. I can't find the reason. The dialog box in the photo application only pops up temporarily.
Has anyone managed to solve this problem?

I thought I had a workaround for this issue, by enabling the old Windows Photo Viewer, but unfortunately whilst it does actually open the print dialog, when an image is sent to print only around 20% of the image is actually printed down one side of the page.
So I'm back to trying to troubleshoot Photos instead using procmon etc.

Did you ever find a fix for this?

I've fixed this by running Add-AppxPackage -register C:\Windows\PrintDialog\appxmanifest.xml -DisableDevelopmentMode
