Azure SQL Server
My billing cost summary pie chart shows SQL Database, Storage and Virtual machine. I also understand my sql server has two pieces combined into sql server: sql server and sql database. I am guessing the Storage is the sql database space? Is the virtual machine separate from the sql database? I did not set up the virtual machine. Trying to figure out what are the pieces of cost for my Azure sql server database Bob

Other than Azure SQL DB, do you have any other service created which requires VM like Azure databricks service needs it?
Go to subscription > Cost analysis > Cost by resources. See the VM name. Is it manually given particular name or some randomly generated name? Some services need VM and so it is created with some random name

This is the group that includes my VM. I am guessing that this has nothing to do with my use of Azure SQL Server - right?

Right. Looks like someone has created that VM for different purpose. Also to understand Azure SQL DB cost, you can go to portal > SQL DB > Configure. You should see Monthly cost there.
