Hi all, After running this service in task scheduler "StartComponentCleanup" to free up disk space to the system partition (basically to clean up the WinSxS folder), the Windows update stopped working. I have rebooted multiple times to no avail. I also adjusted the page files to 800 MB to the system partition. Can you provide some suggestions on how to fix the Windows update via the Essential dashboard? Thanks! H

I tried the three steps but no luck:

    C:\Windows\system32>sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
    Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some
of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For
example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Note that logging is currently not
    supported in offline servicing scenarios.

    C:\Windows\system32>dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
    Version: 10.0.14393.4169

    Image Version: 10.0.14393.4169

    [==========================100.0%==========================]
    Error: 0x800f081f

The source files could not be found.
Use the "Source" option to specify the location of the files that are required to restore the feature. For more information on specifying a source location, see http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=243077.

The DISM log file can be found at C:\Windows\Logs\DISM\dism.log

I followed the weblink and restarted the server. After it restarted, the Essential dashboard stalled and could not use vpn connection to remote into the server. I had to repair VPNanywhere to get it to work.

It is still stuck at the part:

    Hello @Moki9793

1.Please refer to the following link to perform a clean boot:
How to perform a clean boot in Windows
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-sg/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows

2.Check the Windows Firewall Service/status,firewall should be on and active to make Windows update work.

3.Check and confirm that there is no proxy setup on the web browser.

    4.Clean the Update Catalog Folder:C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution
Before doing the cleanup, we need to stop Windows update service.

5.Restart Windows Update service and try to download update again.

If the issue still persists, please download update manually from Microsoft Update Catalog:
    https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/

    Best Regards
    Karlie

Karlie, I have applied steps 2 and 3 and they look fine. The firewall is set to ON and there are no proxy settings.

I work from remote on this server but I don't know if it is a good idea to run the Clean boot. I will have a look more in-depth later as I am studying for the Azure exam. I am just trying to juggle work and study at the same time and work on quick steps...

Back to your suggestions particularly step 4.....
Is it just as it is stated and easy to apply? Before I clear files in the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder, I just have to stop the Windows update service, correct?

Thanks all for the suggestions thus far!
