How to drop power to a USB attached HDD

We are using a WD USB drive for backup. We do not want to leave it running all the time for security reasons. Is there a way to drop power to just that one USB port and not affect other USB devices? We have been looking for a program to run but cannot find one. We have discovered the PnPutil, but have not been able to test it yet. Please advise, Bruce Foat, Tech Support for the Assistance League of Long Beach

    I don't think we can cut power to an USB port since they are hardwired on the motherboard.
    What I can think of is using third-party software such as USBDeview to disable specific USB ports in Windows.
