I have Win 10 V 1903 installed and I get the following message after installing the latest FTDI drivers: Device FTDIBUS\VID_0403+PID_6001+47514789A\0000 requires further installation

I have installed and uninstalled the latest FTDI drivers numerous times and even though does not indicate the drivers are malfunctioning I get the message in the events tab:

"Device FTDIBUS\VID_0403+PID_6001+47514789A\0000 requires further installation"

This seems to be a common issue but I can't find any solution for V 1903. This is quite the headache!

    Hi Greg,

I ended up reluctantly using the Media Creation download to "Update this PC". It seems to have resolved the FTDI driver issue which tends to confirm a similar issue to that experienced on V 1803. This has proved to be a huge headache for many Win 10 users...

Thanks for the help. It's a lot of work repairing Win 10 issues.

Which Repair are you saying always causes you problems? System Restore is your first line of defense if Windows ever malfunctions as it sets everything back exactly like a time machine, can run even from recovery media to get you back before a problem started. It should always be turned on C drive with plenty of disk space (5-15%) configured. http://home.bt.com/tech-gadgets/computing/how-t...

I gave you everything possible to try. I would do them all, skipping none, to see if any works since 90% or problems are solved by one of those steps. For example, we have no idea what quality of install you have, and everything in WIndows 10 depends on the quality of the install. It could even be something as seemingly small as having an app freeloading on Startup causing a conflict.

But if not, then I can help you reinstall the last version where the drivers ran well and block subsequent version Updates until you're prepared to test them on your schedule and either roll back or keep it.

    Hi Greg,

Thanks for the quick response. In version 1803 MS acknowledged there was an issue with installation of updates that could cause this issue but I already had the latest version - 1903 installed before attempting the installation of the latest drivers from the official FTDI website. I used their Win 10 installation and troubleshooting guide and e-mail support before resorting to searching the web for a solution. I have the latest mobo BIOS installed. There are no other driver issues except the message shown in Events for the FTDI drivers which are the latest directly from the FTDI website. My past experience with Windows Repair is that it causes unending corruption of files, lost data and a total nightmare so I don't want to use that approach.

Since there are lots of reports of this problem all over the net I wonder if when MS went from version 1803 to 1903 the problem did not get fixed?

BTW, I was able to install the FTDI drivers on a friends laptop running V 1709 without issues or messages in the Event tab so V 1903 is suspect as V 1803 was confirmed to have this issue by MS.

Hi Jorg. I'm Greg, an installation specialist, 10 year Windows MVP, and Volunteer Guardian Moderator here to help you.

See this guide from the manufacturer for installing the drivers:

    https://www.ftdichip.com/Support/Documents/Inst...

It's being discussed lately on Woody's site here:

    https://www.askwoody.com/forums/topic/ftdi-inst...

    Also in HP's forums here:

    https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware...

If this was caused by Windows Update(s) then you can check which were installed at Settings>Update & Security>Windows Update under Update History, then uninstall them from the link there, and immediately check for these again and hide with the Hide Updates tool explained here: https://www.howtogeek.com/223864/how-to-uninsta...

You can also go into Repair Mode by whichever method works here: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2294-advanc... to use the new Uninstall Updates button in Advanced Troubleshoot Options: https://pureinfotech.com/uninstall-updates-adva...

You can also use System Restore from within Windows or the above Repair Mode to get back before the problem began, then check for Updates with the Hide Update tool and hide them: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-use-system-r...

Go over this checklist to make sure the install is set up correctly, optimized for best performance, and any needed repairs get done: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

Start with Step 4 to turn off Startup freeloaders which can conflict and cause issues, then Step 7 to check for infection the most thorough way, then step 10 to check for damaged System Files, and also Step 16 to test a new Local Admin account to rule out account corruption which is a frequent problem we see. Then if necessary continue with the other steps to go over your install most thoroughly.

If these fail then run the Repair Install by installing the Media Creation Tool from this link http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/m... choosing Download Tool Now, install the tool, open it and choose Upgrade this PC Now. This reinstalls WIndows while saving your files and apps in place; takes about an hour, resolves most problems. It also brings it to the latest version by the most stable method.

Keep me posted on your progress as I will be here to help until the case is resolved.

Update your drivers and BIOS/UEFI firmware from PC or motherboard maker's Support Downloads web page, using the full model number, Serial Number or Dell Service Tag on sticker. Compare the latest drivers available for download with the ones presently installed in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start Menu. Make sure you have the latest BIOS or UEFI firmware, Chipset, Display (Video), Sound, USB3, Bluetooth, Network and all other drivers, or else download and install the latest now.

Updating drivers from the Device Manager or Windows Update is rarely enough. The most basic thing we need to learn to maintain a PC is keep the latest manufacturer's drivers installed from their Support Downloads web page.

If nothing else helps you can run a Repair Install by installing the Media Creation Tool and choosing from it to Upgrade Now. This reinstalls Windows in about an hour while saving your files, apps and most settings, solves many problems while also bringing it up to the latest version 1903 which you need anyway and by the most stable method. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/m....

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted. If you will wait to rate my post, I will keep working with you until it's resolved.
