Didn't know updating security info would take 30 days...

I am trying to help my daughter with her computer. The Security Info in her Microsoft account has the wrong phone number (which she needs it to be corrected so that a PIN can be sent to her) so I updated it and then found out it takes 30 days. I tried to cancel the request, but it then says it will text a code but it would be to the incorrect number. Can someone help?

Thank you!

    Hello All,

I have been using my hotmail account since 22 years. I had setup 2 step verification to my account. I recently forgot my password and while trying to reset my password, the system prompted me to enter last 4 digits of my call number. I received a text message with a pin to enter, I have entered the pin and a window popped up asking me to specify the second step account verification without listing the second verification in the popped up window. I am curious that when I setup the 2 step verification I am SURE that I did add one of my other email id as the second step verification. So, I used the last option to reach out to MS account security team to send me a password reset link to one of my other email id. I am stuck now for 30 days now.

I requested MS account security to reset my password on 6/2/20.

Can someone please answer whether I have to wait until 7/2 to get the reset password link to my other email id to will I get it earlier than 30 days?

And, how does the accountprotection.microsoft.com team communicate back to me?

    Thanks and Regards,

Why is my Microsoft account security info change still pending?

    Applies to: Microsoft Account

When you remove all your old security info and replace it with something new, your Microsoft account is restricted for 30 days. During that time, we'll send notifications to the phone number or email address that's being removed, in case an attacker is attempting to remove your information. We can't expedite this process.

If you didn't make the security changes, or you changed your mind:

Go to Protect your account and sign in.

At the security info change is still pending, select If you didn't request this, let us know.

Or, you changed your mind and want to keep your existing security info, select Cancel this request.

What you can do while changes are pending

If you made the security info changes:

After 30 days, the security information you chose to remove will be deleted.

During this 30-day period, you can still access most Microsoft services, but you won't be able to do things that require a security code, like changing your password, email addresses or manage parental controls online.

You can view, change, or add billing information, and make purchases.

If you have two-step verification enabled:

You won't be able to sign in to your account unless you have the Microsoft

Authenticator app and had previously set it up on this account, or you have access to your old security information. This includes not being able to sign in to other Microsoft services such as Outlook.com or OneDrive.

hi well my laptop is at a lock I need help to unlock it please help does it mean I have to wait for 30 days for it to delete? I have been with Microsoft on the phone trying to help but nothing has worked please help as i work from home email me with help and contact details ******@gmail.com

    Hi Paul,

It won't let me Edit the Security Info. I get the error message saying I can't access this site right now and then it says it requires a security code to sign in. Also says when Security Info updates on 4/22 I can access this site. I am not able to get my daughter logged into her computer at all and she has homework that needs to be done since everything is online at the moment.

    Any other suggestions?

    Thank you so much!

Hello bpayne, it looks like that you just followed the correct steps on how to reset the Verification code and we might need to wait within the 30 day for the account to be reset and moving forward put a correct verification telephone number.

Here's a Link once the account is already accepting new registration for the MFA phone number.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-ph/help/12428/...

Here's the Link also that it might take up to 30 days to reset the MFA Phone number.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-ph/help/12408/...

I do apologize that it might going top take sometime for the MFA Profile to be reset since its a standard process for Microsoft to protect the Account of registered user. Once you started to register a new Number make sure to put a secondary authentication method Like the App or Alternate Email Address.
